Carnival Australia

Formed in 2004, Carnival Australia is a branch of Carnival plc, and is the backbone of the cruise industry in this region with the P&O Cruises brand sailing from Australia since December 1932 when the P&O mail ship, Strathaird, embarked on a five-day cruise to Brisbane and Norfolk Island. We represent five of the international cruise brands operating in the local market: P&O Cruises, P&O Cruises World Cruising, Cunard, Princess Cruises and Seabourn.

Carnival Australia has expanded its operations from one cruise ship sailing from Sydney to six ships sailing year round from Sydney, Melbourne, Fremantle, and Auckland under the local brands of P&O Cruises and Princess Cruises.

Such is the growth potential of the Australian cruise market that two other Carnival brands – Carnival Cruise Lines and Holland America Line – are in the process of establishing operations in Australia with locally based ships.

In recent years, cruising has been the standout success of the Australian tourism sector recording annual growth of nearly 20 per cent for each of the six years to 2010. According to statistics compiled by the International Cruise Council Australasia (ICCA), more than 465,000 Australians took a cruise holiday in 2010 compared with just 116,000 in 2002.

Cruising is on a growth trajectory that will result in one million Australians taking a cruise holiday by 2020 with the industry set to contribute more than A$3 billion annually to the national economy. Carnival Australia is also at the forefront of public debate surrounding the need for appropriate investment in port facilities to support further growth of the cruise industry.

P&O Cruises

For almost 80 years, Australians have enjoyed the unprecedented levels of service that make P&O Cruises holidays so memorable. In the past few years P&O Cruises has expanded from one cruise ship, based in Sydney, to four cruise ships sailing year round from homeports of Sydney, Brisbane, Fremantle, Auckland. A P&O Cruises holiday offers a vast array of delicious food, great entertainment day and night, adventure, new discoveries and beautiful destinations. It's why P&O Cruises is such a popular holiday choice for Aussies.

Princess Cruises

Princess Cruises now deploys two modern superliners in Australian waters full-time.

The 77,000-tonne premium superliner, Sun Princess sails itineraries from Sydney and Fremantle while her twin sister, Dawn Princess, has been offering cruises from Sydney and Melbourne since November 2008. Dawn Princess' itineraries also feature an annual world voyage from Sydney, a first for Australian cruise passengers which has proved tremendously popular.

The expanding local fleet has created opportunities for developing new homeports such as Fremantle and Newcastle as well as launching new itineraries featuring new destinations such as to Christmas Island and Indonesia. In addition, coastal cruises and around-Australia itineraries have provided a significant boost to regional towns, which benefit from day visits by 2000 cruise passengers.

One of the world's biggest liners, the US-based, 116,000-tonne Diamond Princess will return to Australia for another summer season in 2010-11, offering a series of cruises between Sydney and Auckland.
