Princess Cruises' ships deck the halls for a holiday season at sea

As the holiday season begins, Princess Cruises’ ships around the world – including its four ships based in Australia –  are getting ready to celebrate this joyful time of year.

“Our ships offer the perfect holiday combination – a relaxing warm-weather holiday mixed with the merriment of Christmas as well as the chance to ring in the New Year,” said Jan Swartz, Princess Cruises executive vice president. “And don’t be surprised to see snowflakes falling in the atrium.”

Now a favourite feature for the holiday season, Princes Cruises offer a daily snowfall using an innovative snow-making process that creates falling flakes that vanish on contact, allowing passengers to enjoy the thrill of snow flurries without needing to rug up.

Even in between snowfalls, the Princess Cruises ships will offer a merry atmosphere, many with a Christmas tree attached to the mast and all with a full holiday décor deck-out, as strolling carollers fill the air with the sounds of the season.

For Christmas, passengers will receive a stocking turndown gift and there’s a swag of special activities in store on board including a “gingerbread challenge,” where teams test their skills to construct the most creative gingerbread house. Kids will have fun creating a personalised ornament while Santa makes a special appearance with a gift for every child.

Special events also include a reading of “The Night Before Christmas” for children by either the captain or cruise director, while a holiday variety show adds a seasonal element to the ship’s entertainment offerings. Meanwhile the ships’ Princess Pop Star talent show will feature a special holiday competition to showcase passengers’ favourite seasonal songs and everyone can relax with a terrific line-up of classic holiday films.

Religious services are held as well, and passengers can attend midnight mass or an inter-denominational church service. The culinary team will turn out celebratory holiday feasts across the season and on December 31 revellers will join to welcome in the New Year with fun-filled New Year’s Eve parties.

Four Princess Cruises ships will be based in Australia over the summer holiday season including Dawn Princess, Sun Princess, Sea Princess and Diamond Princess.
