Queen Mary 2 Takes Out Luxury Travel Award

Less than one year out from its first royal circumnavigation of New Zealand, Cunard’s magnificent Queen Mary 2 has been voted the best large luxury cruise ship by readers of the prestigious Australian publication Luxury Travel Magazine.

The win represents the seventh consecutive year that Queen Mary 2 has taken out the Best Luxury Cruise Ship (Large) category of the magazine’s Gold List awards.

The largest ship ever to visit New Zealand on her maiden voyage in 2007, Queen Mary 2 will begin her circumnavigation in March next year, starting in the Bay of Islands and stopping in Auckland, Wellington, Lyttleton and Fiordland National Park.

The ship recently spent 30 days in Australian waters undertaking a Royal Circumnavigation of the country – the longest she has been based outside her Northern Hemisphere homeports of New York and Southampton.

Ann Sherry, CEO of Carnival Australia, which represents Cunard Line in Australia, said the Luxury Travel Magazine award was a great accolade for Cunard and its flagship liner.

“Queen Mary 2 turns heads whenever she visits Australia and it’s wonderful to see local enthusiasm for the liner reaffirmed in these awards,” Ms Sherry said.

The Gold List awards are based on a survey in which thousands of Luxury Travel Magazine’s subscribers and readers are asked to nominate the world’s best hotels, resorts, spas, cruise lines, golf courses, airlines and destinations, over 33 individual categories.
