SYDNEY, Friday 1 February 2013 – Frocks, fillies, Flemington….and FUN! Carnival Cruise Lines has cruise fanciers in a flutter following today’s announcement of a brand new itinerary for Carnival Spirit in 2014.
The race that stops the nation will soon stop the newest and largest ship to call Australia home, when Carnival Spirit sails to Melbourne for the Melbourne Cup.
The round-trip itinerary will depart Sydney on Sunday November 2, 2014, arriving into Melbourne on Tuesday November 4 to give guests plenty of time for their pre-race preparation (aromatherapy massage in Carnival Spirit’s Day Spa, or manicure in the salon, anyone?)
Hat or fascinator, frock or suit – these will be the most difficult decisions of the day, with the cruise ticket including entry into Flemington, plus transport to and from the racecourse and back to the ship.
Need to relax after a hard day staring at the form guide? Guests can chill-out on Serenity, Carnival Spirit’s largest open deck, and a blissfully-serene adult’s only area. Worked up an appetite traipsing around the race-track? Cruisers can enjoy a sumptuous meal in the Nouveau restaurant, or sip on a Sauvignon in the Piano Bar (one of 16 bars and lounges onboard). For those onboard who want to start the day with a bang, Green Thunder – the steepest and fastest waterslide at sea – is sure to get the heart pumping on race day.
Jennifer Vandekreeke, Director Carnival Cruise Lines Australia and New Zealand said: “We knew that in order for us to call Carnival Spirit truly ‘Aussified’, we had to take her to an iconic sporting event down under – and we couldn’t look past the Melbourne Cup! This itinerary offers so much for our guests, and our crew cannot wait to get dressed up and be involved in all the action.”
During their three-night stay onboard in Melbourne, guests will be able to see everything the fashion capital of the country has to offer, or can venture a little further afield for shore tours such as lunch and wine tasting in the Mornington Peninsula, or swimming with dolphins at Sorrento; all before Carnival Spirit’s return to Sydney on November 9.
Whether there for the fashion or the fillies, Carnival Spirit has guests covered, with fares starting from just AU$1,799* per person quad share.
