Seven-time world surfing champion Layne Beachley lived up to the Dr Seuss saying that “it’s fun to have fun” on the weekend, hosting a family FUNdraiser event for her foundation onboard Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival Legend in Sydney.
Layne put scores of her guests through their paces in a “Beat the Beachley” competition on the ship’s top decks, with entrants setting out to beat Layne’s times for a range of activities including basketball, putt-putt golf, and sliding down the Twister water slide as well as Green Thunder – the fastest and steepest water slide at sea.
Afterwards it was time to relax and announce the competition winners over a special Seuss at Sea lunch in Carnival Legend’s dining room – with some of the ship’s resident Seuss characters joining Layne for the fun.
As part of the event, Layne also announced the doubling of scholarship programs for Aim For The Stars, The Layne Beachley Foundation, with a record 40 scholarships provided to support girls and women in their field of pursuit in 2016.
