Australia’s newest holiday destination caters for coffee lovers
Wednesday 24 October, Sydney: The Aussie love affair with a good cup of coffee is no secret, and Carnival Spirit™, Australia’s newest holiday destination which sailed into Sydney Harbour last week, knows all about it.
Prior to moving to her new Sydney home, Carnival Spirit™ undertook a range of ‘Aussification’ upgrades to give her an Aussie flavour, which included changing the onboard coffee to Lavazza coffee beans used in premium espresso machines.
To ensure the Carnival Spirit™ baristas know their flat whites from their mochas, Carnival Cruise Lines engaged Shoji Sasa – Fairfax’s 2012 Good Café Best Barista – who shared his wealth of experience and knowledge on what Australians love about their daily cuppa in a training session with the onboard team.
Sasa demonstrated what all the onboard baristas needed to know about a truly great Aussie cup, including how to achieve the right strength, temperature, water/milk ratio and the all-important froth on the top.
“We’re committed to the Australian market and have spent millions on major modifications ensuring Carnival Spirit™ is a great fit. In addition to the bigger ticket items, when we came to Australia and became ingrained in the culture, we realised just how important coffee is to Australians,” said Jennifer Vandekreeke, Director Carnival Cruise Lines Australia & New Zealand.
“We want to make each morning and afternoon (and everything in between) as special as it can be for our Aussie guests, which is why we’ve subbed out the American-style coffee, offered on all our other ships, for Aussie style.”
In addition to great coffee, guests can enjoy a vast array of dining options that have a new Aussie personality, mixed with an American style and service, to suit any appetite at any time.
Knowing Aussies love a good barbie, Fat Jimmy’s C-Side BBQ will feature backyard-and-beach-BBQ delights with grilled chicken breast and Aussie snags, all washed down with an Aussie beer or a cool glass of sauvignon blanc.
With a myriad of dining options to choose from including 24-hour pizza and ice cream and the all new Taste Bar for those wanting only a nibble, there’ll be no going hungry! Carnival Spirit’s newly-updated Aussie menu now offers fresh Australian lamb and seafood, as well as delicious fruit and veggies.
