Princess Cruises reveals top deck features onboard Royal Princess

Princess Cruises has unveiled more details about the outdoor entertainment features on the top deck of the new Royal Princess, including the dramatic SeaWalk, luxurious pool areas, an evening light show and a larger Movies Under the Stars poolside theatre.

The 3600-passenger Royal Princess is a new-generation ship currently under construction for Princess Cruises. Royal Princess will debut in June 2013 with sister cruise line P&O Cruises Australia’s Captain Tony Draper at the helm.

The new ‘top deck’ features are detailed in the company’s latest video previewing Royal Princess, viewable at princess.com/royalprincess.

“We’re placing even more emphasis on our outdoor entertainment options with this new ship,” said Jan Swartz, Princess Cruises executive vice president. “With all these exciting features on the top decks, passengers will really enjoy their time under the sun – or stars.”

Among the new top-deck features of Royal Princess are:

SeaWalk – Extending more than eight metres beyond the starboard side of the ship, the SeaWalk will be one of the ship’s most striking features. Measuring more than 18 metres in length and hovering nearly 40 metres above the ocean, this thrilling glass-bottomed walkway offers a breath-taking experience and unparalleled views available only on Royal Princess. Across the ship the SeaView Bar also extends over the waves for cocktails with unbeatable vistas.

Fresh Water Pools – Directly adjacent to the SeaWalk on the ship’s top deck, passengers will find a host of lounging options, beautiful palm trees, and two fresh water pools flanking an island area between them. During the day passengers can relax and rejuvenate poolside in a variety of seating options, including garden-style furniture and chaise lounges. In the pool areas entertainment options will include games and live music inspired by the ship’s ports of call.

Water and Light Spectacular – By night, the top deck of Royal Princess will transform as the poolside island area becomes a stage showcasing an interactive sound and light show featuring dancing fountains. With architectural lighting effects and a sophisticated sound system, a computerised fountain featuring 85 jets will shoot streams of water ten metres into the night sky.

Movies Under the Stars – Princess’ signature poolside theatre screen will be 30 per cent larger for quality widescreen viewing, complemented by a high-tech audio system for an unforgettable open-air movie experience. Passengers can enjoy movies, sporting events and concerts from a comfortable chaise lounge complete with pillows and free popcorn, or while relaxing in the ship’s giant whirlpool spas.

Evening Entertainment – On certain evenings, the island will be transformed into an outdoor dance floor for the popular Ultimate Deck Party, with a DJ two decks above guaranteed to get the crowd moving.
