South Australia Set for Record P&O Cruises’ Deployment in 2019

South Australia’s cruise industry is set for a boost with the nation’s largest cruise line, P&O Cruises, announcing it will offer a record season of cruises from Adelaide in 2019.

The cruise line has revealed Pacific Eden will carry close to 18,000 holidaymakers on a record 12 cruises departing Adelaide from January 30 to March 16, 2019, up from 8,500 in 2017.

The 1500-guest ship is scheduled to make a total of 20 visits to South Australian ports during its season, injecting more than $10million into the local economy.

On offer will be four-night Sea Breaks to Port Lincoln and Kangaroo Island, or Melbourne, along with three-night food and wine and comedy-themed cruises as well as new seven-night itineraries visiting Tasmania.

P&O Cruises President Sture Myrmell said Pacific Eden’s 2019 Adelaide deployment would be twice as big as her debut season in 2016.

“There’s no doubt that cruising in South Australia is booming. From the foodie mecca of Kangaroo Island to watching the world’s smallest penguin species at night and swimming with sea lions at Port Lincoln, some of the most authentic Australian experiences are only a short cruise from Adelaide,” Mr Myrmell said.

“South Australia has so much to offer and we’re excited to be giving more holidaymakers the chance to immerse themselves in the State’s most beautiful coastal destinations during our longest Adelaide cruise deployment.”

Signalling the growing popularity of South Australia as a cruise destination, P&O Cruises’ fleet of five ships is scheduled to make a total of 23 calls to three South Australian ports during the 2018-19 season, up 13 from the previous summer.

P&O Cruises’ record deployment is outlined in the cruise line’s new brochure, which includes its latest 2018-19 summer season offerings.
