New Video Clip Shows Transformation of Cunard’s Queen Elizabeth

Cunard has released a video showing the transformation of Queen Elizabeth during her recent multi-million dollar refit, including the addition of nine single staterooms.

The inclusion of single staterooms builds upon the cruise line’s offerings that cater to this growing audience.  Across Cunard’s fleet, passengers travelling on their own can look forward to special activities organised by the ships’ social hostesses, including a welcome reception on embarkation day, coffee and cookies every sea day morning, and specially organised meeting points and excursions on port days.

Along with the new staterooms, workers laid over 25,000 square metres of carpeting, replaced more than 3000 mattresses, installed 1200 flat screen TVs, added new awnings on the sun decks, re-modelled the Lido restaurant and Royal Arcade shopping area, and on the technical side, replaced a 65-tonne alternator.

Over 20 days in May and June, 950 contractors worked with ship’s staff around the clock to complete the work at the Blohm+Voss yard in Hamburg, drinking 54,300 cups of coffee, over 35,000 cups of tea and 9000 litre bottles of water, and consuming over 80,000 meals – with 13,500 sachets of tomato sauce – over the duration of the 265,000 man-hour project.
